Being from South Carolina, barbecue sauce runs in my veins. I love a good mustard-based sauce so much, I decided to make my own. For some random reason, our grocery store stocks ONE bottled mustard-based sauce. Amongst about 50 varieties. It was sold out every time pork was on sale- hence the creation of this sauce out of pure necessity! Now, we are eating as little processed food as possible- but there are a few things (condiments) I don’t mess with! This recipe is so easy, I will never buy bottled sauce again- plus, it rocks!
– 1 (14 oz) bottle yellow mustard
– 1/2 c ketchup
– 1/4 c apple cider vinegar
– 3 tbl brown sugar
– 1 tbl Worcestershire sauce
– 1/4 tsp of: garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, ground pepper
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine all ingredients.
Stir and bring to simmer. Cover, reduce heat to low and cook 10 minutes.
That’s it!! See? Insanely easy and way better than what you buy in the store. Plus, you can adjust the ingredients to suit your taste- we like the traditional tangy mustard-based sauces, but you can increase the ketchup if that’s your jam. You can put this on shredded pork (I do Boston Butt in the crockpot), ribs, chicken, anything. Enjoy!!
